These gilt jaguars were used on belts and bags by French designer Jose Cotel in the 1980's. This does not have his typical belt mark, so we do not know if this was his design or simply made with the same accent.
Vintage fabric, metal and crystals. Measures 30” from hook to eye. Could be shortened for a smaller waist.
How can you tell a jaguar from a leopard? By the pattern within their spots, their build, and where they live. The strong jaw of the cats on this buckle suggests to us that the designer was inspired by the jaguars of South America rather than leopards of Asia and Africa. Both species are in the fabulous genus Panthera.
