What a princely little guy. But think twice before you kiss him! Did you know that bright hues in small prey can be something called warning coloration? Bold colors and patterns can be an indicator of dangerous bio-toxins that harm predators. Yikes! But evolution is smart. There is also mimicry, whereby a nontoxic version of the same animal has warning coloration but no poison in their the skin. Whether he's toxic or not, this frog is definitely irresistible!

Vintage crystals, gold tone metal and resin, on pin with safety clasp. Unmarked. Measure 1.5" wide.

Just touching a real poison dart frog may lead to swelling, nausea, or even paralysis but to cause certain death, the poison (a batrachotoxin) must enter the bloodstream through injection or ingestion. Cute as they may be -and realy little like this brooch- kissing a dart frog is a pretty terrible idea!
