Slinky Snake Chain

Deliciously drapey goodness. Layers of slinky chain that originally adorned the chest of a glamorous stylista back in the 60’s. This piece was made in Germany but quite possibly sold in the US (where we acquired it nearly six decades later).

Established in 1907, the Grossé jewelry company started a fifty year collaboration with Dior in 1955, and quickly went from successful German jeweler to global fashion sensation! In the 1960's, they expanded manufacturing with a site in New York to meet growing demand. With timeless pieces like this, one can see why they're still in business today.

Gold plated square snake chains with box clasp. Marked Made in Germany, 1963, with Grossé logo. Measures 16" along shortest chain. Very good vintage condition with slight areas of tarnish as expected for age. Slinky and sexy.

The Grossé company began with a speciality in hair jewelry, which was extremely popular in the late 1800's and early 1900's as a sentimental keepsake for those separated by distance, war, or death. The jewelry, made with woven locks form a loved one, stands through history with amazing resilience. Antique hair jewelry is highly collectible today.

The German word for jewelry is schmuck. And snake, by the way, is schlange
