A charming, animated bison drawn in great detail graces this rare old pin. While we do not know the exact origin of this piece, we have seen a few similar bison pins that were used in Victorian clubs, like a professional organization from -naturally- Buffalo, NY. Start your own wildlife club with this handsome fellow!
Antique metal and possibly celluloid, estimated late 1800's to early 1900's. Measures 1.25" across. Surface is scratched but intact. A beautiful piece that has stood the test of time.
Throughout the late 1800's millions and millions of bison were hunted for trade or sport, causing the population to plummet. The American Bison Society was founded in 1905 (perhaps around the time this pin was made) to protect and restore the species. Their efforts were so successful that the Society voted to close itself down just 30 years later!
