A central lotus flower surrounded by chrysanthemum stems and a symmetrical stylized garden decorate this tiniest of tiny purses. A rare piece made nearly a century ago, this wonderful purselet makes a historical fashion statement in a modern world. Just big enough for a thin lipstick and a love note, it's really a piece of jewelry to be carried. Dainty and special.
Where the original long braided rope strap has been lost to the ages, we attached a beautifully detailed antique watch chain for carrying (removable for use as a clutch). The chain seems as though it were destined for this place and time.
Antique glass enamel and mixed metals. Purse designed 1920-30; chain early 1900's. Measures 4.5" wide by 2" tall and .75" deep. The enamel bag is very thick so the internal width is narrow (fits a chapstick). Removable chain is 13" long. Very good condition with some age to the metal; no chips to the enamel.
Lotus flowers and water lilies look almost identical. Both the leaves and blossom of a lotus (Nelumbo) rise gracefully above the water, while water lilies (Nymphaea) float on the surface.
