Vintage cast aluminum and carnelian. Unmarked, attributed to Arthur Court Designs, circa 1970-80. Measures approximately 15" head to tail, 6" tall at head, 4.75" tall at sides. Opening 10.5" x 3.5" at widest. Fits standard wine bottle. Excellent condition with minor wear.
Arthur Court Designs still exists but unfortunately Mr. Court does not, and most historical records went with him. However, a representative of the company said that given the rarity of this design and lack of a signature, it's possible that Mr. Court made only a few grasshoppers as samples or special orders.
Grasshoppers hear through their bellies! Their temporal organs are located on the underside of their abdomens, near the legs.
