Epic Jaguar Handbag

Regular price $895.00 Sale

The ultimate handbag! A crystalline jaguar head with vibrant green eyes and gilt fangs functions as the clasp on this amazing architectural purse. This vicious and delicious handbag emerged from a collaboration between luxury bag maker Harry Rosenfeld and fabulous costume jeweler Kenneth Jay Lane. They designed several styles of jaguar-adorned black leather bags for Bonwit Teller in 1969. This dainty angular version is sleek, sexy and extremely hard to find. It's functional too, with room for your cell and other modern necessities. Soft lilac lining adds a feminine touch to the fierce vibe.

Features exterior flat pockets on each side, two slip pockets and one zippered pocket inside; comes with original double-sided mirror and matching change purse. Fits a standard sized iPhone (5.5" x 2.75").

Vintage textured leather, satin, gold plated metal and crystals. Stamped Kenneth Lane for Rosenfeld. Approximate measurements: 5" wide at interior opening, 7.5" at base; 2.25" deep at base; 7" tall (purse body is just under 5" tall plus 2" handle). Excellent condition with little to no exterior wear and minor discoloration inside, primarily at hinges.

When this bag hit the shelves, Jaguar, Panthera onca, was hunted for its beautiful coat – as many as 18,000 cats were killed per year! But in 1973 the emerging Endangered Species Act and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species  (CITES) put a damper on jaguar kills. While jaguars still face hunting threats today, the species is not currently listed as endangered.
