Super detailed design covers all sides of this Egyptian-inspired box. Royals wearing the uraeus (sacred cobra facing out) are surrounded by falcons and lotus flowers under a bright shining sun, all highly symbolic of power and life force in ancient Egypt. The front and back side panels depict servants or devotees with ducks and lotus flowers, while the other sides feature a lion and snake...more symbols of power!
Vinatge brass and wood. Made in Germany, likely during the Egyptian design revival of the 1960's. Interior measures 3x3 inches. Very good condition with minor wear. Some solder on the base of one foot indicates a foot may have been re-attached at some time.
Ancient Egyptians revered falcons and may have kept them as pets. Hundreds of these birds, which represented the god Horus, were mummified and buried with the wealthy and powerful.
