Grace your dresser with this precious antique box. A delicate faded photo of a young girl and her adorable lapdog grace the top, with intricate metalwork on the sides and a simple, sweet satin interior. Let your imagination run away with whom this box was made for and what meaningful items it’s held over the ages. A special one-of-a-kind place to keep your most beloved treasures.

Unmarked antique mixed-metal box lined with satin, leather base. European, estimated late 1800s to early 1900s. The paper photo is directly exposed and bears age spots, so we advise the new owner to protect it from direct sunlight. (We chose not to add glass so as not to risk damage.)

How did lapdogs evolve anyway? Through a process called selective breeding, whereby people choose certain qualities (small stature, for example) when deciding which dogs to mate. To make a dog smaller, one would breed only the smallest male and female. In a few generations -voila!- you've got a whole litter of smaller dogs!
