Damascene Dragon Brooch
A silvery winged dragon hisses from within his golden lair, surrounded by leaves, vines, and a filigree frame. Representing human fears and strengths, this mythical creature makes a quintessential gift for the psychologist or Game of Thrones fan in your life.
Vintage mixed metals on pin with trumpet clasp. Unmarked, estimated age 1930-40s. Approximate measurements: 2.25" across, 1.5" tall. Wear consistent with age; slight scuff to right of dragon. Pin has very slight curves (visible in last photo), but end is straight and clasp works well.
While they may symbolize something different in each place, the dragon beast appears in ancient cultures around the globe. Anthropologist David E Jones, author of An Instinct for Dragons, says that’s because “evolution embedded an innate fear of predators in the human mind.”
