Antique Rose Jewel Box

Regular price $110.00 $89.00 Sale

A pretty piece of history for your dresser, this box has original silk lining and an unusual enamel coating. Ivory finished Art Nouveau jewelry boxes are a rarity (only made 1911-20, and not always tinted like this floral charmer). This box was likely marketed in spring, perhaps during 1916 when Rose was "Flower of the Month" for June. Mixing hard and soft, this heavy yet delicate old keepsake will play nicely with your edgy modern bling. (Alexander McQueen charms shown for display only.)

Antique cast metal, enamel, fabric. Unmarked, estimated 1913-1918. Approximate exterior measurements: 4.5" wide, 3" tall, 2.75" deep. Enamel has small chips to edges and two cracks on the back (see photos). Early 1900s metal boxes were often cast with a mix that includes lead so this sweet box is not appropriate for children. Note: the top is heavy and needs support when open or it leans back...maybe that's why they made it with a tiny handle!

What is an Old or Antique Garden Rose when it comes to gardening? They're varieties of roses introduced before 1867 when the first hybrid tea rose came out, starting a new variety of "modern" roses.
