There are four different types of snake locomotion: Serpentine : “lateral undulation” or sexy side-to-side movement for watery or hard surfaces. Sidewinding : bending sideways and vertically, for example to skirt hot desert sand. Rectilinear : tiny movements in the stomach send them straight forward, to navigate narrow passageways. And, finally, Concertina : coiling up then shooting themselves forward.
